First Scare | Video

[shadowbound]

[The video feed comes to life, revealing one of the cabins. Limited light filters in from the window, drapes pulled closed, but a single candle lit up the desk in which a figure sat at.

The flame flickers, revealing a man's face, highlighting his displeased face. With his lips pursed, silver eyes narrow at the video feed, which changed to gold whenever the light from the candle shone in their direction.

Those eyes roll in their sockets, and the man looks away, his face enveloped in shadows once more.]

This is ridiculous. [He mutters into the darkness, exhaling heavily through his nostrils.]

Reduced to nothing but almost a mere mortal. [The spirit lifts his hand, his eyes concentrating on it. But for the nth time, nothing came. His hand shook and the side of his fist slams onto the desk.]

Locked up like some criminal. Unacceptable. This is no place for me. [His hand soon rests on his face, running down the front of it, pulling at skin.]

What am I even talking about; no one will hear me on this thing. Why even bother?

[As politely as possible, he looks Pitch up and down to take in his unique appearance. Then, he steps back, gesturing down the hallway.]

Only a simple mind would be unable to understand the source of your discontent. What you do is inherently negative. Perhaps not inherently evil, but negative, most definitely. Even used for betterment, it's not going to be perceived that way by your subjects. That it's been put on the same level as criminal activity must be insulting to you.

[He gives a little shrug.]

How is it you came to be on the barge?

[Pitch nods and starts to walk down the hallway, his hands folded behind his back.]

Exactly. I do my job, my purpose even, and yet I get punished for doing it. Not just by being here, but back home as well. The Guardians watching my every move. It'd degrading.

[The spirit sighs gently and lets his shoulders relax, thinking back.]

The last thing I remember was being dragged down into a hole, by my own creations. Darkness soon followed and I woke up here.

[She's used to this by now, but there's still a barely audible sigh.] I turned twenty-four recently, I just won't ever look it.

And why won't you ever look your age?

Because my ability more or less stopped me from aging years ago. [Though there's honestly no 'less' about it, because it had done so for Adam, had done so for Sylar.] I don't know how, just that it happened.

And how long did it take you to become a Warden? A few months?

What does your ability consist of, exactly? Shape-shifting or something else entirely?

For the most part yes. Inmates, Wardens, floods... But I'm sure something else will come up eventually.

[He shakes his head, rubbing his forehead.]

This whole situation will just take some time to get used to.

Healing. Technical, sciency name is rapid cellular regeneration. Maybe it sees aging as an infection or something? You know, with old age comes ailments, and I can't ever get sick, so. [Pulls a 'IDEK' face.]

[There's a list in Dean's head; each detail lets him cross off another of the entries, but it's still a long, broad list.]

[Edward directs them towards the elevator.]

If I may ask, why did your own creations assault you?

They sniff out any source of fear they could find. I was beaten down, surrounded by my enemies.

[Bending the truth? A little.]

Instead of helping their master, they attacked me. [But he shrugs and looks over to Edward as they approach the elevator.]

What about you? What brought you here?

It's not often that I'm able to be seen through human devices.

No, I was simply curious.

What makes you think it's human? These things run on rubber bands and paper clips. They're not exactly cutting edge technology.

In general, I'm not seen through devices, unless people believe in me. But, from what I've been noticing, everyone can see me.

[Edward doesn't really want to talk about himself, but Pitch has been relatively forthcoming, and it would be rude to deny him an answer.

He presses the elevator button before speaking.]

Not meeting certain societal expectations, I suspect. It's thin justification for keeping me here, so we're rather in the same boat -- pun intended.

[And that tells Pitch exactly nothing. Good job, Edward.]

Am I right in identifying your enemies as The Guardians? Very strange that they should all gather to attack you. I would have thought them to have better things to do with their time.

[He eyes Edward for a moment, but he doesn't press the issue. He watches the elevator expectantly.

But he nods with a small laugh at the mention of the Guardians, more bitter than humorous.]

If I told you who the Guardians were, you probably wouldn't believe me.
