First Scare | Video

[shadowbound]

[The video feed comes to life, revealing one of the cabins. Limited light filters in from the window, drapes pulled closed, but a single candle lit up the desk in which a figure sat at.

The flame flickers, revealing a man's face, highlighting his displeased face. With his lips pursed, silver eyes narrow at the video feed, which changed to gold whenever the light from the candle shone in their direction.

Those eyes roll in their sockets, and the man looks away, his face enveloped in shadows once more.]

This is ridiculous. [He mutters into the darkness, exhaling heavily through his nostrils.]

Reduced to nothing but almost a mere mortal. [The spirit lifts his hand, his eyes concentrating on it. But for the nth time, nothing came. His hand shook and the side of his fist slams onto the desk.]

Locked up like some criminal. Unacceptable. This is no place for me. [His hand soon rests on his face, running down the front of it, pulling at skin.]

What am I even talking about; no one will hear me on this thing. Why even bother?

In seven months you were changed.

[His lips tighten into a frown.] I doubt that will be the case for me then.

I -- had a growth spurt, we'll say.

[ His expression dims; he knows that the events with Toshiko gave him a flying shove at graduation. He just doesn't know what to THINK about that. ]

Anyway, maybe I'm ahead of the curve. I am brilliant.

Let's hope I'm not paired with a warden for the time being.

[A beat.]

A flood? [Something tells him it isn't an ordinary flood.] What do you mean by a flood?

[mistconduct]

Floods happen sometimes. I guess the boat gets too close to one world or another and it rubs off, so like, you change for a few days. Like one of the first floods I ever saw, everybody who got hit with it was compelled to tell the truth. You couldn't fucking lie no matter how hard you tried.

Oh really? I couldn't tell with your large head and your name.

If you've got it, flaunt it! Come on, you're a-- boogeyperson, whatever. You should know how villains work!

How many worlds has this barge been to?

[mistconduct]

Dozens, probably. I don't know, I've just seen, like, two.

[He's taken aback. This guy actually wants to know?]

[He raises an eyebrow.]

What have you done here that makes you a hero now?

Well then. That's good information to have.

[He suddenly looks a little uncomfortable. Being pushed into these floods, without his powers... it was an unsettling thought.]

Changed my ways, mending my thinking, and went home and protected my city instead of being a jerk. More flies with honey, and all that. Even if flies are honestly more attracted to vinegar. It's a saying. They're not accurate a lot of the time.

[mistconduct]

[Chris sees that look, and looks a little contrite in response. He really does need to work on his people skills]

[Dean grins, bright and broad, easy.]

[Pitch rolls his eyes.] Right. [Might as well humor him.]

Why didn't you stay in your city? Or did the Barge tug you back in?

[He lifts a hand, sensing his concern.]

I'll be fine. I just need to adjust to the idea that I don't have my powers here to protect myself with.

No. Wardens exchange service for reward. If i graduate an inmate like yourself, I'll be granted something I cannot otherwise attain on my own!

Rewards, just to keep you content.

Wardens? More like lapdogs.

[megamind]

It's not a reward like that. We're not kept comfortable, we don't get much more than you do -- though we do have the right to abandon our post and leave, if we decide that the impossible isn't worth fighting for. And sometimes, the Admiral will send one of us back of his own reasoning.

But we're not lapdogs. We're people, just like you.

[He hesitates, the grin fading some, one eyebrow raising.]
